Juliet E. Mckenna's New Trilogy to Launch with Free eBook.

From the press release...

Confirming its commitment to new digital formats, Solaris announces that it is to release a free eBook (ePub, Kindle and PDF formats) ahead of its newest fantasy series, The Hadrumal Crisis, by Juliet E. McKenna.

The Wizard’s Coming serves as a prequel for The Hadrumal Crisis – McKenna’s upcoming trilogy from Solaris, hitting bookshops in August.

Originally published in Solaris’ anthology The Solaris Book of New Fantasy in 2007, the book introduces some of the characters and events leading up to this stunning new fantasy series from a major voice in fantasy writing.

The first book in the trilogy, Dangerous Waters, will see McKenna tear into her fantasy world in a thrilling re-invention of the genre.

The Archmage rules the island of wizards and has banned the use of magecraft in warfare, but there are corsairs raiding the Caladhrian Coast, enslaving villagers and devastating trade. Lady Zurenne’s husband has been murdered by the corsairs, and a man she doesn’t even know stands watch over her and her daughters. Corrain, former captain and now slave to the corsairs, knows that Zurenne’s guardian is a rogue wizard. If Corrain can only escape, he’ll see justice done. Unless the Archmage’s magewoman, Jilseth, catches the renegade first...

I have to say that I've never read anything of McKenna's (actually, one Imperial Guard story in a WH40K anthology but nothing in McKenna's own original settings...) so this news isn't really doing much for me at all right now. If you're a fan though, or you just fancy a free eBook to test the waters before diving in, then this could be one for you. Just thought I'd let you know... ;o)
