Happy New Year!

Hope you all have a great day and an amazing year to follow! My day will mostly involve making sure that Hope doesn't bother my parent's dog too much. The rest of the year? Well, my job comes to an end on the 17th so the next few months are going to be interesting...

You can expect to see some of my reading resolutions here, in the next day or two, but for now... what are your reading resolutions? Any books that you meant to read last year but didn't? I've got loads of these as you probably already know ('The Heroes' and 'The Book of Transformations' are high up on that particular list)... How about books that you're planning on definitely picking up this year? I've got loads of them as well ;o)

Comments in the usual place please!

Happy New Year!

I hope you all have a great 2011 and that everything you want comes your way! :o) Could this be the year that I finally get to the bottom of the reading pile...?

Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a great one last night and saw in the New Year in just the way that you wanted to. The Rivoli Ballroom, in South East London, turned out to be a great place to wave good bye to 2009 and usher in 2010 :o)

I pretty much said it all in yesterday's post but the offer is still open for you all to stick around and see what the blog has to offer this year; it should be good. Here's a little taster of what you can expect to see over the next few days at least (courtesy of of my Christmas present pile)...

I enjoyed the hell out of Jeff Vandermeer's 'Finch' so decided it would be a good time to check out the previous two books in his Ambergris setting. Anything by David Gemmell also makes for good reading over a sleepy Christmas and New Year (same goes for 'Star Wars'). 'The Encyclopedia of World Mythology' looks like it could be good as well.
One thing you won't be seeing though is...

Here's a book that I should have picked up last year but never got round to and it looks like there was good reason, at least as far as I was concerned. Not only did the humour fall flat but the threat to our heroes were the K'nids. I think Roald Dahl might have something to say about that if he were alive. Some things just make me completely disconnect from a story and that really did it for me...

Anyway, have a great 2010 everyone and if I don't see you around here then maybe I'll bump into you on one of the forums I hang out at :o)

P.S. No resolutions from me this year, not when I didn't keep a single one last year...

The Slightly Slimmer 'Happy New Year' Post!

Happy New Year everyone! I hope 2009 brings you everything that you want ;o)

You got the 'Big Fat Post' yesterday and seeing as the year is only a few hours old today's post will be a little shorter! ;o) There's lots to look forward to this year (for SFF fans) and my plan is to tell you all what I think about it right here. George R.R. Martin's 'A Dance with Dragons' is one to look forward to (I'm going to think positive and believe that it will be out this year) as is Rothfuss' 'The Wise Man's Fear'. Lynch's 'The Republic of Thieves', Joe Abercrombie's 'Best Served Cold' and R. Scott Bakker's 'The Judging Eye'. Will I be looking back, at the end of the year, all red faced that certain of these titles never made it onto the shelves? We'll have to wait and see...

Like I said, the plan is to be a voracious reader and share all my thoughts with you right here. One of my New Year's resolutions is to go back and re-read some of the older titles, on my book shelves, so keep an eye out for these. I'm also trying to get round to finishing some of the larger hardbacks from 2008 so we'll have to see how that goes...

In the meantime, what's coming up in January? I've got a couple of interviews outstanding that I'm going to chase up as well as some Christmas DVDs that I haven't watched yet. As far as reading goes, I've just finished 'Ender's Game' and will be posting a review tomorrow. I'm also going to be reading a few titles from David Gemmell's back catalogue seeing as the David Gemmell awards are now open for voting (which reminds me, I still need to vote...) After that, well... you'll have to wait and see :o)
I'm also working on a few competitions that will pop up when you least expect them, keep an eye out...

Have a great day!

Happy New Year!

The title says it all really ;o) Hope you all had a good one last night, whatever you ended up doing. I’ve got the hangover I promised myself but we never made it to the fireworks in the end, for some strange reason we preferred drinking copious amounts of red wine and doing a jigsaw of a gardener being attacked by a ravenous giant caterpillar… We’re not people for traditional New Year’s celebrations ;o)
New Year is the time for making resolutions, most of mine seem to involve losing lots of weight and staying away from sweets and chocolate. Maybe some light exercise as well, I’m certainly resolving never to feel as hungover as I do right now! I also have resolutions for the blog, the main one being to work my way through the ‘still to be read’ pile that is slowly taking over the room. If you’ve sent me a book, and haven’t seen it reviewed yet, then keep an eye out this year! The other main one is to try and avoid reviewing the same stuff, as other bloggers, at the same time (I’ve been really bad with this). We’re all fans so there will be an overlap every now and then (in what we read) but everyone will benefit from a little variety I reckon ;o) Having said that, first up for 2008 is Joe Abercrombie’s ‘Last Argument of Kings’, there’s a slight overlap with The Wertzone and Sandstorm Reviews but (this once) I don’t care because it’s turning out to be a damn fine read so far. It’s certainly raising my standards for everything else that I’ll be picking up this year. If you’re a fan then I guarantee you’ll enjoy this, look for a review in the next few days…
That’s about it for me today. I’m going to find a dark corner and wait for the pain to go away…

Happy New Year everyone!
