Some Books I Could Be Reading This October...

Right now I've found myself in one of those positions where I flick through a few pages of a book, think it's cool and add to a pile of similar books. Because of this, I've got three books on the go right now ('World War Z', 'The Tooth Fairy' and 'The Last Colony'; a bit of a weird mix for me) and I should hopefully have reviews up this week...

The books in the picture (tastefully arranged on my garden steps with bonus Star Wars figure action!) are ones that I hope to get round to reading this month. This could change depending on what comes through the door. Notable absences include Erikson's 'Toll the Hounds' and Esslemont's 'Return of the Crimson Guard' purely because they've been hanging around so long that it's just getting boring talking about them now. The plan is to read at least one of them this month...

So... Looking at the picture, is there anything that you would like me to bump to the top of the pile this month? Would now be a good time to revisit David Anthony Durham's 'Acacia' to see if my opinion of this book has changed? I've heard good things about Ian Graham and Matthew Stover, should I give their books a go? Is there anything here that you think I shouldn't bother reading at all?
Comments please! :o)

I think I got round to reading pretty much everything last month, that people suggested, apart from 'Fallen' and 'A Cruel Wind'. I still intend to give 'Fallen' a go but 'A Cruel Wind' just wasn't working for me so it's on the back-burner for now.

Hope you all had a great weekend and that Monday morning is nice to you... :o)

P.S Apologies for the picture quality, stupid (stupid) camera phone...

Are the Star Wars figures the same as the 'cute' Indy ones? I almost bought them in Forbidden Planet the other day.

I haven't heard of all the books in the pic (and can't decipher a couple of the spines) so here're my two suggestions:

1. Read Agent to the Stars it's great, short, and fun (I've already read it).

2. Read The Risen Empire because I own it but haven't read it; if you read it, I'll find out if I should open it up soon or not! ;-)

Terribly curious about Brandon Sanderson's 'Mistborn!'

I know it's an old one, but one of those should buys that never make it into the basket ... so, I'd like to nominate "Fevre Dream".

Just noticed "The Two Pearls of Wisdom" ... haven't read much with Chinese lore, so would add that to "Fevre Dream" above.

Lovely pile Graeme :-)

It's funny. Yesterday evening my wife and I discussed about "Fevre Dream". We both like George R.R. Martin and my wife likes vampire stories too. Normally I don't read vampire stories. So we are still indecisive whether to buy and read "Fevre Dream" or not.
But your reviews are always a good advice for me.
So please move "Fevre Dream" to the top of the pile.

gav - they're the same ones! :o)

Cheers folks, your suggestions are all being moved up the pile ;o)
Keep the comments coming!

Hey Graeme, I would suggest 'The Two Pearls of Wisdom' or 'Mistborn'. :-) Two Pearls because a fellow Wonderlander (Liz) also read it, and it'd be cool to get you opinion about it, and Mist because a lot of people will want to know about Sanderson, considering WoT and all that. :-)

Who wrote The Fallen?

Hi Calibander - Tim Lebbon is the author of 'The Fallen', the blurb really interests me but I just haven't got round to it yet. Hopefully that will change this month...

Cheers again, guys, for all your suggestions. They've all been noted and will be read ;o)

I have a suggestion... send Caine Black Knife to me and I'll read it for you, reduce your waiting list by one... :)

Darren - Sounds like a great idea, I'll stick the book in the post...

Hang on...

How about I read 'Caine Black Knife' and tell you how it goes. That way your reading pile won't get any bigger ;o)
