The Sunday Morning Cover Art Post...

Because a couple of books turned up yesterday and the cover art for both is worthy of a mention albeit for different reasons as you will see in a second.

Check this first one out...

Epic fantasy or a bunch of Elven rappers with 'backing Dragon'? I still don't know, even now... All I know is that 'nineteen eighties fantasy' called and wants its cover back. Blurb? Go on then,

Cayden Silversun is part Elven, part Fae, part human Wizard—and all rebel. His aristocratic mother would have him follow his father to the Royal Court, to make a high society living off the scraps of kings. But Cade lives and breathes for the theater, and he’s good—very, very good. With his company, he’ll enter the highest reaches of society and power, as an honored artist—or die trying. Cade combines the talents of Merlin, Shakespeare, and John Lennon: a wholly charming character in a remarkably original fantasy world created by a mistress of the art.

Having never read anything by Melanie Rawn, I'm tempted to give this one a go despite the awful cover. I'm in no real hurry to get round to it though. Anyone here read anything by Melanie Rawn?

And here's the other cover,

Now this I like. I love the sunset affect and how it makes the swords shine, there's also a swashbuckling vibe here that I'm keen to get more of. What I really love though is the way that the 'half finished' feel to the picture gives it a real dreamlike quality. I've got some other books to read first but I will definitely be checking out 'The Scar'. And here's some more blurb,

Egert is a brash, confident member of the elite guards and an egotistical philanderer. But after he kills an innocent student in a duel, a mysterious man known as “The Wanderer” challenges Egert and slashes his face with his sword, leaving Egert with a scar that comes to symbolize his cowardice. Unable to end his suffering by his own hand, Egert embarks on an odyssey to undo the curse and the horrible damage he has caused, which can only be repaired by a painful journey down a long and harrowing path.

Either of these two books take your fancy?

Love that second cover looks like a speed painting to me with that energy and suggested movement in that hazy style. The first cover is pure Elmore inspired. Definatly targeted at a particular readership.
You see a lot of the hazy speed painted covers on militery historical books also a firm fave of imagine fx magazine.

Elven rappers, lmao, I can't get that notion out of my head when I see the book now :)

I like the second cover more but I think I'm more likely to read the first one based on the blurb. Looks like I'll be heading to library shortly!
