The November Reading Pile...
This month's reading pile is brought to you by the evil (yet strangely cute) might of the evil Galactic Empire...!
Happy November everyone! Christmas is still a tinsel wrapped dot on the horizon but the garage, at the end of the road, has already put up all their Christmas decorations and is selling Christmas Cake that will have gone off long before the big day itself... *sigh*
So, it's that time of month when I post a picture of what I intend to be reading this month. If I wasn't already reading it then Stephen Deas' 'The Adamantine Palace' would be on the pile as well and there are other certain 'brick sized tomes' that aren't on the pile this month (we all know what they are....) I still very much intend to read 'Toll the Hounds' and 'Return of the Crimson Guard' but only when I've got time to spare (and when that time isn't spent trying to jam myself into a packed train...) In the meantime I thought you'd all end up bored of seeing the same books over and over again! ;o) I'm also getting an advance copy of R. Scott Bakker's 'The Judging Eye', in the next day or so, so that will certainly be read sooner rather than later!
My camera phone is as dodgy as ever so here's a list of the books I'll be reading...
'Fool Moon' - Jim Butcher
'Heir to Sevenwaters' - Juliet Marillier
'Hidden Moon' & 'Rising Moon' - Lori Handeland
'Busted Flush' - George R.R. Martin (Editor)
'The Horror Stories of Robert E. Howard'
'The Well of Ascension' - Brandon Sanderson
'Zoe's Tale' - John Scalzi
'Royal Exile' - Fiona McIntosh
'Shadow's Edge' - Brent Weeks
'Elric, The Stealer of Souls' - Michael Moorcock
'The Gabble' - Neal Asher
Which one(s) do you reckon I should read first? Are there any that you think I should avoid at all costs? Comments please! :o)
Go for the Brent Weeks, mate. You don't want to be the last blogger to post a review when the final part of the Night Angel trilogy comes out next month, do you..? ;)
ReplyDeleteRoyal Exile. I want to know if it lives up to the cover!
ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading Marillier's Sevenwaters trilogy and they are absolutely wonderful books. "Heir to Sevenwaters" is a sequel to the original trilogy, so might want to read those three before reading this one.
ReplyDeleteokay graeme where are the urban fantasy titles. Its autumn. its a perfect time to be reading about it vampires and warewolves and all that good stuff. Let me know how you get on, and If you want any suggestions as I am an AVID reader of the genre. Please don't hesitate to send me a message
ReplyDeleteI am reading Royal Exile right now and it is very good.
ReplyDeleteDarren - You know what... you're absolutely right! ;o)
ReplyDeleteGav/Ruby - Consider 'Royal Exile' bumped up the pile as well. I've got a bit of a fantasy thing going on right now as it is so one more won't hurt :o)
Trine - I did wonder about this but it looked like I might be able to read it and get away without reading the others. I'll have to have a think about this now...
Jenny - 'Hidden Moon' and 'Rising Moon' are urban fantasy, come to think of it so is 'Fool Moon' :o)
Time permitting there may be more as well...
Totally agree with Darren ... Brent Weeks is getting immediate coverage on many a blog ... I'd like to see you bump him up the pile. I've got The Way of Shadows on top of mine :o)
ReplyDeleteThat said, where urban fantasy is concerned, I'd suggest Jim Butcher. I've only read Storm Front which I enjoyed, but then I got sidetracked into Simon R Green's Nightside books after a mate's recommendation, because they are darker, grittier, great monsters etc. And, never went back to the Dresden Files. It was a long while ago, so memory is selective to only a few scenes, so I'd enjoy your take on the latest.
Plus, I don't think Handeland is for you after your recent foray into paranormal romance books :)
Hi again Wendy :o)
ReplyDeleteI was a little dubious about the Handeland but thought I might give it a go anyway. However, your comment has now made me think twice. Me and paranormal romance just don't mix!
