The potential for a great story is there but due to the way Erikson writes i feel like I am missing it. I think it has to do with the way he bounces from character to character so quickly, that I do not have a chance to get into what Im reading. Give me more substance and more descriptions so that I can be fully immersed in the world. Im going to give the second book a chance and hopefully it will be better.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8679457768571800783.post-18652308065274437482008-06-12T15:45:00.000+01:002008-06-12T15:45:00.000+01:00Ah, this is just what I needed. :-) I've been bur...Ah, this is just what I needed. :-) I've been burned by series before, so I was hesitant to jump into this one (despite all the good reviews).

I've also gone the other way, where I've only bought the first book, liked it, then had to scramble to find the other books in the series!

Can't win, I tells ya! :-)Nancy Beckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06214579721075450777noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8679457768571800783.post-52553292007633551762008-06-04T20:51:00.000+01:002008-06-04T20:51:00.000+01:00Robert - Cheers for the link, always appreciated :...Robert - Cheers for the link, always appreciated :o)

Michael - 'Gardens of the Moon' can be a confusing read but things start to make more sense the further you get in. If it's not appealing to you however then you're probably not missing out if you don't continue, there's far too much stuff out there to keep going with a series that you're not enjoying ;o)

Chris - There are so many cool books out there, I want to read them all but I don't think I'll ever have all the time!Graeme Floryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15411505049326440010noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8679457768571800783.post-24247108929793458772008-06-04T16:44:00.000+01:002008-06-04T16:44:00.000+01:00Nice idea! :) I'm liking your contests, at the mom...Nice idea! :) I'm liking your contests, at the moment. I just linked yours :)

Michael, the first book can be confusing, but things do make sense as the series progresses, and the writing improves noticeably from volume to volume. But if you can't get into the series after the first two or three novels, then it's probably not for you...Roberthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15006565422867420980noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8679457768571800783.post-57060469123273517572008-06-04T15:11:00.000+01:002008-06-04T15:11:00.000+01:00I've tried a few times to read this series. I need something to chew on while I wait for GRRM's "A Dance with Dragons".

Erikson's writing style is like a finger in the eye to me though. I read the entire first book and half of the second before I gave up, admitting to myself I still had no real clue what in the world he is talking about.

So many people like this series I feel like I'm missing something but every time I've tried to get back into it, I just can't force it down.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
