At the moment they've got no plans to give the other two books the anniversary treatment (which surprised me I have to say). I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens... :o)Graeme Floryhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15411505049326440010noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8679457768571800783.post-9848457041805453382011-08-30T22:03:13.761+01:002011-08-30T22:03:13.761+01:00You may want to hold off on reading the next two b...You may want to hold off on reading the next two books - there are rumors that if this Anniversary Edition sells well enough, Del Rey will do the same for Dark Force Rising and The Last Command over the next two years (for their 20th Anniversaries).Jim Haleyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11674061625786617635noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8679457768571800783.post-24546284591916461532011-08-26T16:44:37.031+01:002011-08-26T16:44:37.031+01:00I tend to think of Star Wars as space fantasy rath...I tend to think of Star Wars as space fantasy rather than space opera, but that is a niggle. The amazing thing about the original Star Wars universe (screw the following movies) was that it was fluid. Unlike, say, Star Trek, from Lucas on nobody tried to nail down every detail. This left Star Wars open for all sorts of books that further developed what the original movies had left fertile ground.

I have to admit, I read the side stories. The characters in the actual movie are holy to me. i grew up on Star Wars. At two, Star Wars was the first movie I ever saw in the theater. My brother and I created universes for Star Wars. But not much of the rebels. If Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, and Mark Hamell aren't interpreting them and putting every nuance of their well characterized voices and actions into the moment, it just ain't It.

That said, I do love Zahn. Maybe I'd better take a look at what he does with my demi-gods 20 years after the fact.Bets Davieshttp://betsdavies.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8679457768571800783.post-74130459581053261682011-08-26T15:35:37.830+01:002011-08-26T15:35:37.830+01:00Wow - twenty years. I agree whole heartedly that they are the cream of the crop when it comes to Star Wars fiction, with many of the other series books out there poor imitations that come across as trying too hard.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
